Opening reception: October 2, 2008, 6pm – 7:30 p.m.

On show October 2 through November 29, 2008 at SUITE FIVE SALON, a selection of 16 original photographs by Marin filmmaker and artist John Zissimos. The images illustrate the resultant looks born out of a collaborative project among the Suite Five team to highlight and explore its creativity and innovative approach to hair styling.“It was an opportunity for us to share inspiration,” says Suite Five owner and stylist Bradley Crane. “We wanted to show our interest and involvement in the future looks of styling; what’s to come. We also wanted to explore and present hair as art.”

The images captured by Zissimos, each featuring one hair model from the shoulders up — the angles and framing vary from shot to shot — are romantic, soft, and simple — graceful. Color is either black-and-white or limited to a simple palette. The background is plain. Nothing detracts from the focal point, the action: Hair. Jagged, wispy, sculpted, wavy, seductive, mysterious, angled, each creation culminates in a compelling, alluring look.

The SUITE FIVE SALON team includes stylists Bradley Crane, Lori Talarico, and Brian Jensen; colorists Rita Leanio and Melissa Magtibay; and make-up artist Guille Rayala. Frames for the photography were generously donated by Oberon Design (oberondesign.net).

John Zissimos began to develop a passion for photography at the age of 13. He spent 15 years as an award-winning Creative Director at some of the most innovative and well-known advertising agencies in America. Zissimos is currently working as an independent writer/director. He lives in Mill Valley.
